Tastings: $3 for all five wines or $6 a glass while browsing the store
2014 Rkatsiteli ($18) Possibly the oldest vinifera grape on the planet, this originally hails from the Republic of Georgia. Heavily planted in Russia. Bright grapefruit and crisp acidity (think Sauvignon Blanc). Our favorite with oysters on the half shell.
2014 Chardonnay ($19) A lightly oaked Chardonnay with a balance of acidity and fruit including ripe peaches and pears on the nose, followed by flavors of creamy bananas and lively citrus. The use of barrel aging provides additional complexity. Great with a multitude of cheeses from Brie to Parmesan, or pair with garlic-rich dishes.
2013 Apple Wine ($14) This is a return to our roots–the first wine we ever made. Like biting into a crisp, sweet, juicy apple! A nominal amount of sugar remains to make this a pleasant aperitif, table wine, or even dessert wine with a perfect fruit tart or angel food cake. A portion of the proceeds from this wine are being donated to Blue Ridge Greyhound Adoption.
2013 Merlot ($19) This medium-bodied Bordeaux is showing fresh aromas of sweet dark wild cherries, anise, and a hint of oak. Aging in French oak and a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon integrate Old World structure and tannic strength into this soft, supple, easy going red. Pairs well with grilled pork.
2012 Petit Verdot ($28) Often used for blending, it brings rich tannins and deep color to the table. We believe this grape can also make a nice varietal wine, showcasing its intensity and complexity to make it the big, bold red in the line-up. Sweet violet aromas, fresh cedar and 24 months of French oak aging integrate into a soft start, bold mid-palate, and lingering finish.
