Make a Themed Vegetable Garden
This summer challenge yourself with creating a fun themed garden the whole family can design, take care of, and enjoy together!
One great themed garden idea? PIZZA!!! We all love eating pizza. All of that yummy sauce and interesting toppings you can choose from make every pizza individual.
To begin the process start out by sitting down with the family and making a list of what everyone likes on their pizza. By doing this you are able to figure out what needs to go into the garden. Tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, basil, and rosemary are just some examples of great stuff to place on top of a pizza. After the list is finished come on in as a group and pick out the different items from your list. We have a variety of herbs and vegetables to choose from and you’ll have fun touching, smelling, and choosing the best ones for your garden!
Prepare your garden in the correct fashion. Start off by freshening the dirt. We recommend our Bumper Crop Soil it really makes a huge difference in the growth of the plants. It is a great additive dirt that helps break down the horrible clay that we have in our area. Plus its organic! We all love that perk.
After your bed is prepared, add those new herbs and vegetable plants!
The next part is going to be the hardest part! Making sure to keep those plants in tip top shape for the harvest to be simple and easy. Make sure you fertilize the garden and keep those plants from drying out. We get really hot summers here and letting them dry out can be detrimental. We don’t want you losing any plants because of a lack of water. While the kids are playing in the sprinkler on those hot summer days don’t forget to give your plants a little water. There are plenty of ways to fertilize the garden to influence growth and get the most amount of herbs and vegetables out of your garden. Espoma’s Garden Tone and Tomato Tone are just two of the products you can use, those again being organic! We absolutely love that because you can feed your plants while protecting yourself from harmful chemicals.
Don’t wait!! Plan out your pizza garden today and come in to see us! We can help you along with your new project to do as a family! Happy hunting for those gardens!
